Politics of fast: Anna, Modi more effective
than Ramdev, says survey
Yog Guru Baba Ramdev may be launching agitations one after the other in support of his demand of bringing back the black money stashed abroad, but not many approve his protest to be successful enough. Atleast the survey conducted by a media house reveal the same.
According to the survey, only 5 per cent of the respondents believe that Ramdev's fast was effective.
On the flipside, the Gandhian leader Anna Hazare is still riding the wave of popularity with over 63 per cent of people supporting his anti-corruption campaign.
In recent days, many high-profile leaders including Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, Ramdev, Shankarsinh Vaghela launched their fast for their own reasons. However, in the survey results revealed that the Yog Guru Ramdev has received minimal support (5 per cent) for his fast despite his reigning popularity among masses.
Ramdev had launched his fast on June 04 at Ramlila Maidan. However he was forcefully sent to Haridwar, though Ramdev continued with his fast. Following his deteriorating health, Ramdev had to break his fast in hospital in few days without reaching any concrete results. It must be mentioned that the Yog Guru, while launching his fast had claimed that he could continue fasting without food for over a month.
Comparatively, the three-day long 'Sadbhavana' fast of the Gujarat CM Narendra Modi was able to make an impact in a limited period than Ramdev. According to the survey, over 10 per cent of the respondents have claimed Modi's fast to be successful than yog guru. Morever, 23 per cent of the readers have kept Modi's fast in the ‘most effective category’.
Narendra Modi had launched his three-day 'Sadhbhavana' fast from September 17 onwards to promote peace and harmony in the state. In counter attack, Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela had launched a parallel fast in Gujarat. But only two percent of the readers claimed it to be successful.
Meanwhile, the iron lady of Manipur Sharmila Irom, who has been fasting from past 11 years too have received support of 7 per cent respondents claiming her fast to be effective.
And Anna, the man who lead country's biggest anti-corruption movement and forced the government to bow down to his demands has received maximum approval from the readers. Anna had launched his fast against corruption on August 16. Though he was arrested before he could start his fast, he continued his fast from Tihar Jail. He continued to be on fast for 12 days.
