Right to recall 'Right' !!

Indian activist Anna Hazare’s suggestion that there should be a “right to recall” incompetent and dishonest legislators merits serious consideration.

The politicians who manage India have become a power unto themselves. They seem to be no accountable to anybody. Many of them hail from modest backgrounds from the villages and small towns. So when they get an opportunity to misuse power for financial aggrandizement, they do so with immunity and no fear.

The leader of the Congress party Sonia Gandhi spent her youth in Italy and the UK. She came to India as the daughter-in-law of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and led a privileged life. She is not familiar with the day-to-day tribulations of an ordinary Indian’s life.

Indian leaders must realize that they are elected to manage a country by the people, who are the real shareholders or owners of the country. They are accountable to the people and should be tabling quarterly progress reports on what they have delivered to the people.

Winning an election is not a license for pleasure or a sinecure assignment. It is not a picnic. It is a serious responsibility. Those who cannot discharge their responsibilities satisfactorily should resign and go rather than misuse their positions for financial aggrandizement.
